SDG 11.2.3
SDG 11.2.3 Public access to museums
NCUE offers exhibition spaces such as the Yi-Hui Hall (Baisha Art Center), Staff Dorms 1-6 (Hou Garden), the College of Extension Education (Arts and Culture Corridor), Hong-Dao Hall (You Yu Yi Gallery), and the University History Museum. These spaces are open to the publicfree of charge throughout the year, and various arts and cultural exhibitions are held regularly or irregularly, allowing the public convenient access to artistic and cultural activities. The Alumni Hall, opened in 2025, is also planned as an art exhibition and cultural display venue, showing artworks by alumni, faculty and students, historical photographs and archival materials. It will serve as a platform for exchange that preserves NCUE’s institutional memory and creativity and will be open to the public like a museum or gallery.
In addition, faculty and students from NCUE's Department of Fine Arts actively participate in off-campus art exhibitions. They also organize exhibitions outside the university from time to time, bringing their artwork into the community.
Summaries of NCUE's exhibition venues are as follows:
1. Yi-Hui Hall: Baisha Art Center
(1) The Baisha Art Center provides ample space and comprehensive facilities for students of the Department of Fine Arts to present and exhibit their work. NCUE budgets funds each year to add and update equipment to support creative work and exhibitions by faculty and students. The Center also invites artists from outside the University to exhibit, and admission is free for visitors from inside and outside NCUE.
(2) Figures 1-3 show photos of the exhibition space of the Yi-Hui Hall.

2. Staff Housing 1–6: Hou Garden
(1) In 2007, NCUE converted former staff dormitories on the Jinde Campus into “Hou Garden,” an alternative exhibition and performance space. It encourages site-specific experimental work and arts and cultural exchange, and admission is free for visitors from inside and outside the University.
(2) Figures 4-5 show photos of the exhibition space of Hou Garden.

(3) In 2025, a total of 17 exhibitions were held at the Baisha Art Center exhibition space and Hou Garden, including graduation exhibitions, experimental exhibitions, and departmental exhibitions. The exhibition schedules and details are shown in Table 1, with exhibition posters shown in Figure 6.

5. The University History Museum
The University History Museum, established in 2011, displays photographic records and historical objects kept since NCUE was founded in 1971, together with gifts received from partner universities abroad. It documents the University’s history and is open to the public free of charge all year round. Photographs of the museum are shown in Figures 14–17.

6. Alumni Hall
(1) The Alumni Hall is located on the fourth floor of the Baisha Administration Building, directly opposite the main gate. It symbolizes alumni’s care for connection with their alma mater. It is both a physical space and a platform for alumni engagement and wider social connection. The Hall will also be developed as an art exhibition and cultural display space, showing artworks by alumni, faculty and students, historical photographs and archival material such as alumni bulletins. Like a museum or gallery open to the public, it serves as an entry point through which visitors encounter NCUE’s history and culture. These displays recall shared memories among alumni, strengthen their ties with the University, and broaden public understanding of how NCUE has developed.
(2) The related news report web page is shown in Figure 18.
(3) Photos of the Alumni Hall venue are shown in Figures 19-22

7. Off-Campus Art Exhibitions:
In addition to hosting exhibitions on campus, the faculty and students of the Department of Fine Arts at NCUE actively participate in off-campus art exhibitions. In 2025, a total of 26 exhibitions were held off-campus, covering graduation works, USR ecological art projects, and thematic exhibitions in collaboration with enterprises and foundations. These exhibitions allow students to showcase their artistic works in various venues and bring art into the community. They also give the public opportunities to view works by NCUE faculty and students and encourage broader cultural participation. Information on selected exhibitions is shown in Figures 23–24.

8. International Artists' Mural Creation and Public Art Exchange
NCUE invited eight artists from the Malaysian Artists Society (PPM), together with distinguished NCUE alumnus Yung Sooi Chong, to create four large public murals on the theme of “life education” at the Hu-Bin Building on the Jinde Campus and on the Shida Campus (Figure 25). The project created campus art spaces that combine public art, aesthetic education and life education. The combined murals are open to visitors from inside and outside the University free of charge, giving faculty, students, local residents and visitors opportunities to appropriate public artworks up close and enhancing the campus arts environment and cultural participation.
NCUE faculty and students, together with international students from Indonesia, India and Pakistan, joined in painting the murals, promoting cross-cultural artistic exchange (Figure 26). The project also helped establish a collaborative relationship between NCUE and the Malaysian Artists Society to further art education, public art display and international cultural cooperation. It opens the campus as a shared exhibition space and extends the reach of art and culture to wider public.
