SDG 2.5.3

SDG 2.5.3 University access to local farmers and food producers

NCUE has long shared its professional facilities, technology and services with local farmers and food producers to support industrial upgrading and sustainable development with specialist knowledge and technology.

  • 1. NCUE's Department of Biology offers access to well-equipped laboratories and support in the following fields: insect–microbe symbiosis, algal resource engineering, social insect studies, animal ecology and evolutionary biology, yeast biodiversity and ecological evolution, biomimetics, molecular neuroendocrinology, molecular biology, plant genetic engineering, molecular health science, molecular medicine, free-radical biology and biotechnology, structural bioinformatics, biology teacher education, environmental education, multimedia biology teaching and learning, and brain cognition and learning. The Department's teaching and research both contribute greatly to agricultural improvement.
  • 2. The Department of Geography at NCUE has promoted the planning and research of regional development. Through comprehensive regional development plans that advance overall regional development, environmental conservation and assessment, the living environment quality and productivity of farmers can be enhanced.
3. In 2025 NCUE's USR project worked with coastal aquaculture communities in Changhua, giving local aquaculture operators free access to university laboratories and testing services. These included monthly water-quality and sediment monitoring at intake and outlet points, in the intake channel, and along the coast; identification of invasive shellfish in culture ponds; and measurement of marine Vibrio density in water and aquatic products. This support helps operators monitor and improve their culture environment, raise product quality and strengthen sustainable aquaculture management, and promotes friendly aquaculture and local branding (Figure 1).
