SDG 4.3.2

SDG 4.3.2 Public events (lifelong learning)

As the only national university in Changhua County, NCUE not only provides educational resources to its own faculty and students but also holds lectures and community education events open to the public frequently, comprising both regular and ad hoc activities. The courses span all age groups, including children, adults and the elder, so that local residents and the public can take part according to their learning needs. Details are provided below, together with relevant links, photographs, and participant numbers as supporting evidence.

1. Regular activities:

NCUE regularly hold activities to meet the continuing education needs of local residents and the public. (3) Community Senior University:

To put lifelong learning into practice and promote social inclusion, NCUE ran the Changhua County Community Senior University since 1995. The senior university provides older adults aged 55 and above who registered in Changhua County with opportunities to return to school and pursue lifelong learning. This thereby help improve older adults' social participation and interpersonal exchange. The Community Senior University runs one term in the first half of the year and one in the second, each lasting 16 weeks, with classes held during the day from Monday to Friday. The university offers a wide range of classes, including Japanese, English, calligraphy, Chinese painting, art, and information technology. In addition, to bridge the digital gap for older adults, NCUE introduced a smartphone applications class in 2020. The class moves systematically from basic to advanced content, teaching from basic phone operation, app downloads, and social media interaction to phone photography, video production, map navigation, and AI tools, putting digital empowerment for older adults into practice. In response to the information security risks of modern society, the courses also proactively incorporate media literacy and anti-fraud awareness, helping older adults recognise disinformation and the latest fraud tactics and strengthening their ability to protect themselves.

Regarding learning environment, NCUE is committed to building a safe, hygienic and welcoming campus. We disinfect all classrooms after each class to safeguard older students' health and their peace of mind while learning. In 2025, the Community Senior University offered 28 classes (see Figures 5-6), with 893 attendances completing their courses (Figures 7-12). This demonstrates the significant results of NCUE's investment in educational resources to promote the well-being of older adults in the local community. The open enrolment webpages for each class are shown in Figures 13-14.

(4) Minecraft Coding Camp for Children:

To develop children's computational thinking and digital literacy, as well as extend information and STEM education to younger learners, NCUE has held the Minecraft Coding Camp for Children on a regular basis during the winter and summer vacations since 2021. The camp adopts a gamification learning approach and uses the highly open-ended sandbox game Minecraft as the vehicle for instruction, building basic code and command operations into the course design. Through an immersive virtual environment, the instructors guide the children to use a variety of elements for spatial construction, cross-disciplinary exploration and logical problem solving. This not only develops children's three-dimensional spatial thinking but also substantially strengthens their capacity for innovative problem solving. The camp has trained 91 children to date (Figures 15-16), which demonstrates NCUE's commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility by extending high-quality technology education resources to the basic education level.
