1. Professor Yang-wei Lin of the Department of Chemistry held the ‘2020 Taiwan Symposium on Cutting-edge Micro/Nano Materials and Analytical Technology’.
This symposium is committed to promoting exchanges among people engaged in the research and application of micro/nano materials and analytical technology in Taiwan and globally. Such exchanges aim to strengthen cooperation among industry, government, academia, and researchers to enhance the research quality and industrial development of fields related to micro/nano materials and analytical technology in Taiwan to apply micro/nano materials and analytical technology in academia and industry. This symposium focuses on the research results of graduating master’s and doctoral students in the association and aims to strengthen students’ communication and presentation skills as well as pre-service training. In addition, experts and scholars in micro/nano materials and analytical technology will be invited to report the research results to enhance the possibility of exchanges and cooperation among association members. It is hoped that this symposium will enhance the research energy of our association, strengthen master’s and doctoral students’ ability to express and communicate their academic achievements, and increase the possibility of cooperation among members. 2. Professor Yi-ping Cheng of the Department of Public Affairs and Civic Education conducted the Workshop on the Integration of Human Rights Issues/Digital Course on Human Rights.
The content of the programme includes workshops on integrating human rights issues into practice and full-length digital teaching videos on human rights to develop high-quality citizens and enhance education quality among future citizens. 3. The Department of Industrial Education and Technology held the 21st Symposium on Improving the Management Quality of Technical and Vocational Schools.
This activity invited experts and scholars from Taiwan and other countries to give lectures on the topic of ‘Improving the Management Quality of Technical and Vocational Schools’, as scholars in technical and vocational education are driving the improvement in the academic quality and management practice of such schools. The symposium also published research papers on related topics such as vocational (technical) education, engineering education, careers advice, quality education, the application of management in technical and vocational education, creativity education, technical and vocational education policy, and e-learning to spur the participating scholars to gain opportunities for academic exchanges with experts and distinguished guests. 4. Professor Chia-ling Lo of the Department of Guidance and Counselling held the programmes ‘1. Counsellors’ Mindfulness and Self-care Study and 2. Integration of Literacy-oriented Teaching into Dropout Guidance Education’ of the Ministry of Education.
The programmes mainly assist the Ministry of Education in training psychological counsellors in Taiwan to understand the cutting-edge emotional stress adjustment models used globally related to mindfulness learning. On the one hand, it reconciles counsellors’ self-care and helps them learn new technologies; on the other, it supports the idea of educational equality, integrates literacy-oriented teaching into the education courses of dropout guidance and study resumption guidance, provides differentiated educational environments for individuals, and avoids future dropouts caused by learning gaps. Information on the Mindfulness and Group Art Therapy Practice Workshop is shown in photo 2 and 3.

5. Professor Yi-chun Lin of the Department of Accounting attended the ‘Symposium on Management Review Enterprise Cases, School of Management, National Central University’.
This symposium, organized by the School of Management, National Central University, presented papers on enterprise cases to be published in the special issue of Management Review. In this symposium, two articles from young scholars were selected, focusing on analysing the value creation process and evaluating intangible assets in cultural and creative industries. These studies make a contribution to the literature by being the first to analyse value creation and evaluate intangible assets from the accounting and financial perspectives, which offers practical management implications. The proof of the publication of research papers is shown in photo 4 and 5.
6. Professor Der-Jiunn Deng of the Department of Information Engineering held the ‘Strategy Workshop for 2030 ICT Technology’ of the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The Strategic Workshop for 2030 Information Communication Technology was held in Taipei, Taiwan on December 11–12, 2020. This workshop included 22 invited talks by 15 global experts and 7 domestic experts. The topics covered B5G/6G communication networks, artificial intelligence (AI), edge computing, block chain, quantum computing, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare. The Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan invited participants from industry, academia, and research institutions to attend and contribute their suggestions toward Taiwan’s strategy for 2030. 7. Professor Der-Jiunn Deng of the Department of Information Engineering held the ‘EAI SGIoT 2020 – Fourth EAI International Conference on Smart Grid and Internet of Things’ (Activity webpage: https://sgiot.eai-conferences.org/2020/)
8. The Local Counselling Psychology Research and Development Centre, Department of Guidance and Counselling, College of Education jointly organized the ‘Third Academic Symposium on the Localization of Social Sciences and Fourth Academic Symposium on Local Counselling Psychology’ and the ‘First Award Ceremony for Si Yuan Scholars’ jointly with the Chinese Indigenous Social Science Association.
More than 300 scholars and researchers in the field of social sciences attended the three-day international symposium. More than 30 lectures and forums in Chinese and English were held, including lectures on topics such as ‘Dilemma of Chinese and Western Social Sciences’, ‘Reorganization and Development of Chinese and Western Social Sciences’, and ‘Importance of the Asia-Pacific Region in the Development of Global Social Sciences’, with active responses from all participating scholars. 9. The ‘Shetou Sock Production: Innovation, Start-up, and Revitalization’ USR Practice Programme Office held the ‘Social Practice and Teaching Innovation Exchange Symposium’.
This exchange symposium was held at the College of Management of the National Changhua University of Education on September 10, inviting the National Changhua University of Education, Da-Yeh University, Chienkuo Technology University, Chung Chou University of Science and Technology, and participating manufacturers to have discussions and exchanges (see Figure 8). Professor Kai-li Yeh of the Department of Business Administration, the host of the programme, stated that the programme aimed to achieve the ultimate goal of ‘value sharing’ by combining the university’s social responsibility, corporate social responsibility, and community social responsibility, creating not only social value but also economic value, and linking with the three of the United Nations SDGs: quality education, sustainable cities and communities, and decent work and economic growth. 10. The All-English Teaching and Research Centre of the English Department of NCUE held the ‘Joint Results Symposium of the All-English Teaching and Research Centre’.
This symposium was held jointly with the National Taichung University of Education on November 30. Besides inviting Dean Chiu-lan Chen of the College of Liberal Arts of National Taiwan Normal University and Professor Chieh-fang Hu of the University of Taipei to deliver speeches on ‘Making the First Move Toward Content Integration for Pre-service English Teachers: The Case of Science Camps’ and ‘Reflections on CLIL Teaching Design from the Cognitive Course of Disciplines’, there was also an exhibition of the achievements by various centres, highlighting their research and development in English teaching, such as lesson plans, teaching manuals, and classroom language manuals, and sharing their research experiences and achievements. In addition, to provide teachers with professional development in English teaching, the All-English Teaching Research Centre of the English Department of NCUE has held a number of lectures on English teaching this year. At the end of October, it held a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) workshop for several disciplines, hiring a senior teacher training lecturer from the British Council. It is aiming to incorporate the key learnings into the seventh-grade mathematics textbook of the 2019 new curriculum to demonstrate the strategies and skills of the CLIL teaching method. In mid-November, in cooperation with the American Institute in Taiwan, we invited excellent bilingual education experts from overseas to lead the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Teaching Workshop and trained teachers on the skills and professional knowledge needed to teach various disciplines in English. Participants indicated that they had gained a lot from the workshop and hoped that NCUE could hold similar teacher empowerment study activities in the future. As the next step, NCUE will cooperate with the programmes of the Ministry of Education and make continuous efforts to develop more high-quality all-English teachers.
