SDG 3.3.3 Shared sports facilities

NCUE has provided local community residents with shared sports facilities to promote healthy recreational sports culture for years and also improve the quality of sports education and management. By integrating community resources to expand national sports programs, we broaden students' knowledge and foster well-rounded personal development. NCUE provides the following sports facilities:

1. The construction of the all-weather sports field at the Baoshan campus marks the school's leadership in a new trend in sports. To improve the sports environment and expand the sports functions of the second campus, the school built a new covered all-weather sports field. The project has completed its second inspection and is expected to be fully completed in September. (Figure 1)

2. NCUE’s indoor and outdoor sports facilities, such as the track and field, are provided free of charge to faculty, staff, students, and community residents. Every morning and evening, numerous local residents enter the track for fitness and exercise. In the evenings, dance groups of mothers practice dance routines to upbeat music in a corner of the track. Additionally, the rooftop of the tennis court features 3 outdoor basketball courts and 2 volleyball courts, attracting many sports enthusiasts during nights and holidays. The parallel bars and horizontal bars under nearby trees are also popular spots for elderly residents to stretch and warm up. Indoor facilities such as badminton courts and multi-purpose courts are available for free application by faculty and students, while external community residents pay for usage. These facilities can be used by community or external groups for sports competitions on holidays.

3. The first floor of our Wang Jin-pyng Activity Center is an open space called Lakeside Plaza due to its proximity to the campus landmark Baisha Lake. With shade and ample space, students and community residents frequently use this area for free exercise, such as gymnastics, dancing, and rope jumping. Additionally, NCUE established the U-First Professional Sports Guidance Service Team, which has been involved in the University Social Responsibility Practice Hub (USR Hub) - "Northern Changhua Active Heart Power - Chimo Zi · Happy Sports Program" since 2020. Combined with the Ministry of Education Sports Administration's "Free Technology-Based Physical Fitness Testing," the testing targets include faculty, staff, students, and neighboring community residents. The purpose is to help understand individual physiological and physical conditions, choose suitable exercises based on personal abilities to achieve fitness goals, and promote community elderly residents' participation in sports. Starting with simple, easy-to-learn warm-up exercises, we guide community elders to experience the joy of exercise and encourage them to maintain good exercise habits.

4. Swimming Pool Our swimming pool is a fee-based facility leased by Xinxiang Enterprise Co., Ltd., providing paid services to faculty, staff, students, and community residents. (Figures 2-3)

5. There are several outdoor sports facilities at Baoshan Campus, which include volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a football field. Indoor facilities include a table tennis classroom and a weight training room. Outdoor facilities, except for tennis courts, are provided free of charge to faculty, students, and community residents. For example, the football field becomes a popular gathering place for nearby softball enthusiasts to practice batting on weekends and holidays. Basketball and volleyball courts also attract many young residents. Many residents enjoy walking together in groups on the undulating campus trails, enjoying aerobic exercise similar to light mountain climbing while absorbing phytoncides. Tennis courts and indoor facilities are available for free application by university faculty and students only. (Figure 4)
