##conf1206 Coastal development and its conceived border(ing) in geography: challenges from global trends to local deficit and social inequality
‘Industrial and Environmental Sustainability Plan for the Fangyuan and Dacheng Townships in Changhua County’ proposed by NCUE:
The Fangyuan Township, Changhua County’s second largest administrative district, is located in the southwest, near the sea. It has a very illustrious history and includes the largest wetlands in Taiwan’s inter-tidal zone. At the estuary of the Choshui River is the six-kilometre-long Fangyuan Coast with an uninterrupted panorama. The fishing village there is typical of those in Taiwan, being ‘at the wind’s head and the water’s tail’ (experiencing year-round strong winds and a scarcity of water). Clam breeding is predominant local industry.
In recent years, environmental issues such as pollution of the coastal wetlands and climate change have had a significant impact on clam farming and threaten livelihoods. Therefore, there is an urgent need to promote environmental education so that local residents possess the necessary awareness and understanding of the environment. We cooperate with the Ministry of Education to plan and promote various courses to provide seed teachers with local environmental education and assist them in jointly focusing on local environmental issues. The statistics on the number of courses and participants in 2020 are as follows:
