SDG16.3.1 Provide expert advice to government-2020
NCUE comprises seven colleges: Arts, Science, Engineering, Education, Management, Technology and Vocational Education, and Social Sciences and Physical Education. NCUE is a national university with leading academic achievements and industry–university cooperation performance in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou Region. Its faculty’s professional achievements from all the colleges have been recognised by local government agencies. The faculty members serve as advisory or review members of government committees and consult with various government agencies to provide specific suggestions for formulating policies. Some of the examples follow:
1. Professor Jia-Ling Luo from the Department of Guidance and Counselling serves as a member of the National Reform School Evaluation Project of the K–12 Education Administration, Ministry of Education, and an advisory member of the Dropout Student Counselling Committee and the Life Education Committee of the Taichung City government. Her work helps part in prevent youth suicides and promotes the efficient provision of community resources. She also helps facilitate cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education to implement counselling, education, and supervision for young potential offenders. Additionally, she advises on organisational restructuring and professional assistance.
2. Professor Li-An Kuo from the Department of Guidance and Counselling serves as a member of four committees set up by the Ministry of Education, including the Student Counselling Advisory Committee, the Working Group Committee for Gender Equality Education of the K–12 Education Administration, the Teacher Grievances Committee, and the Incompetent Teacher Review Committee. As a member of these various committees, she reviews the development direction of gender education, improves the guidance system for young people’s physical and mental development, and helps establish a sustainable development system for educational institutions and organisations.
3. Professor Der-Jiunn Deng from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering serves as a technologist for the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs. He is responsible for the R&D and innovation of Taiwan’s information and communication technology (ICT), supervising relevant institutions and companies to solve technical bottlenecks and increase Taiwan’s competitiveness in ICT.
4. Professor Chih-Hung Wang from the Graduate Institute of Education serves as a member of the Education Upgrade Project Advisory Committee. He helps the education authority implement the 12-Year Basic Education Curriculum and the associated plans to enhance teachers’ capabilities. The Education Upgrade Project has been integrating the 12-year Compulsory Education project—an important element of the 12-Year Basic Education Curriculum—since 2016 in conjunction with the Seeded Lecturer Training Project for the 12-Year Compulsory Education. Together, they promote and implement the curriculum guidelines through personnel training, strategy research, and action plans.
5. Professor Pei-Wen Lu from the Department of Geography serves as a member of the National Park Planning Committee of the Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior. She assists in reviewing and clarifying the ecological, humanistic, and social issues related to national parks and formulating follow-up development directions.
