SDG 10.6.2 Access to university track underrepresented groups applications

The core of higher education lies in promoting social mobility and redistributing resources through education. NCUE is committed to enhancing financial aid measures to assist disadvantaged groups, economically or culturally disadvantaged students, and students with special needs. We provide diverse pathways for admission to help them enroll successfully, thereby achieving the public nature of higher education.

Based on Article 24, Paragraph 1 of the Indigenous Peoples Basic Law, which states: "The government shall, in accordance with indigenous characteristics, formulate public health and medical policies for indigenous peoples, incorporate indigenous areas into the national medical network, conduct indigenous health care, establish a comprehensive long-term care, emergency rescue and referral system, and safeguard the health and life safety of indigenous peoples," NCUE has planned to train indigenous elderly healthcare professionals to address the imbalance between supply and demand in long-term care for indigenous peoples.

NCUE applied for the establishment of the "Special Program for Indigenous Students in Elderly Health Promotion and Care Management" in 2022. The program was approved to enroll 30 indigenous students, and in 2023~2024, this number was increased to 35, ensuring a certain proportion of enrollment opportunities for indigenous students. Please refer to Appendix 10.6.2A(PDF) The Indigenous Peoples Basic Law for more information.

1. Statistics of NCUE’s disadvantaged students in 2024

2. Admission of underrepresented groups to NCUE in 2024

To achieve the goal of sustainable development on the basis of equality, to eliminate, to reduce all inequalities, and to ensure the education rights of poor and disadvantaged groups, NCUE improved the admission opportunities of disadvantaged students, and effectively promoted the mobility of social classes so as to achieve the measures of a social protection system. NCUE also provided various admission channels and welcomed disadvantaged students (such as indigenous people, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged students) to enroll. The admission situation of each channel is as follows Table 2-4:
