SDG 3.3.7 Mental health support for staff
Faculty and Staff Mental Health Service Program: Faculty and staff members at NCUE are occupied with heavy workloads in teaching, research, service, and various academic or administrative duties, bearing tremendous physical and mental pressure. Only by maintaining physical and mental health can they make sustainable contributions to NCUE’s development. To ensure the physical health of every colleague, the university not only subsidizes health examination fees and reminds staff to undergo regular health check-ups but also implements a comprehensive mental health service program for faculty and staff to further promote their psychological well-being. Through self-assessment tools and psychological counseling services, we aim to enhance faculty and staff awareness of their stress tolerance and adaptation conditions, thereby improving their mental health and work adaptation capabilities.
1. Preventive Measures
(1) Planning Employee Spiritual Enrichment Lectures:
Content covers self-exploration, self-growth, emotion management, stress relief, communication skills, interpersonal relationships, marital communication, parental education, leadership development, career planning, lifelong learning, life education, conflict resolution, team building, and other topics.
(2) Emotional and Stress Self-Assessment Tools:
Emotional and physical symptoms serve as important indicators reflecting current stress adaptation conditions. The "Taiwan Depression Scale" is provided to faculty and staff to increase opportunities for self-assessment, enabling them to understand their current emotional and adaptation status, and to adjust or address difficulties and stress based on the results.
2. Employee Assistance Measures - Psychological Counseling Services (EAP):
(1) To create a warm, caring, and high-quality work culture and assist faculty and staff in resolving issues that may affect work performance, the university annually formulates an "Employee Assistance Program (EAP)" implementation plan based on employee service needs survey results. The program provides faculty and staff with up to 12 counseling sessions per year through NCUE’s Community Psychological Counseling and Potential Development Center. Staff seeking counseling can directly contact the center and receive services from professional psychologists, with absolute confidentiality of personal information guaranteed. This service is provided free of charge, with all costs fully covered by the university.
(2) Through this program, the university aims to identify and assist colleagues in addressing difficulties in work or life that may affect their performance at an early stage, helping them engage in work with healthy physical and mental states, thereby enhancing morale and service effectiveness. The program provides diversified assistance measures. In 2024, regarding faculty and staff psychological counseling:
(a) The university annually conducts mental health assistance programs for faculty and staff - psychological counseling service activities, and designs feedback forms to understand applicants' suggestions, serving as important references for improvement or continuation of the program.
(b) NCUE’s Community Psychological Counseling and Potential Development Center is responsible for providing free mental health support to employees. Working together with the Personnel Office, it implements mental health service programs for faculty and staff within the university, assisting the organization in constructing secondary prevention work for employee mental health. Through free psychological counseling, group sessions, lectures, and other methods, it promotes organizational personnel's enhancement of mental health knowledge and improves mental health levels, enabling them to focus on official duties during work hours, thereby enhancing work efficiency. In 2024, this program provided psychological counseling services totaling 113 sessions, with 19 colleagues seeking assistance.
(c) Conducted the Second Semester Academic Advisor Conference and Academic Advisor Professional Development Workshop for Academic Year 2024 - This advisor workshop not only served as an important venue for enhancing the professional competencies of NCUE's academic advisors but also became a key platform for promoting exchanges between NCUE and principals of various levels of elementary and secondary schools in Changhua County, jointly constructing educational strategies. NCUE continues to play the role of an educational development promoter, working hand in hand with local communities to create a new landscape of "Beautiful Changhua, City of Hope" and "Happy Changhua, Educational Hope."
