SDG 3.3.2 Health outreach programmes

NCUE provides outreach programs and projects in the local community (including student volunteers) to improve or promote health and well-being, encompassing topics such as hygiene, nutrition, family planning, sports, exercise, aging, and other health and well-being related subjects.

1. NCUE’s Community Counseling and Human Development Service Center provides zero-distance health consultation services for community residents, and enhances their mental health

(1) The "NCUE Community Counseling and Human Development Service Center" has been established 30 years and has been approved by the local health bureau as an institution authorized to conduct telecommunication psychological counseling services and provide health services to the community.

(2) NCUE’s Community Counseling and Human Development Service Center is responsible for providing free psychological health counseling for employees. This center collaborates with the Personnel Office to implement psychological health service programs for faculty and staff on campus, assisting the organization in establishing secondary prevention measures for employee mental health. Through free psychological counseling, group sessions, and lectures, the center promotes mental health knowledge among organizational personnel to enhance their psychological well-being, enabling them to focus on official duties during work hours and thereby improving work efficiency.

(3) Main service items include:

(a) Providing professional psychological counseling services to community residents.

(b) Providing practical training and in-service training for psychological counseling professionals.

(c) Providing supervision services for interns and psychological counseling professionals.

(d) Assisting local enterprises in employee mental health promotion.

i. Collaborating with the local enterprise "Chihbu Applied Co., Ltd." to participate in the "2024 Youth Career Counseling Service Program," providing career counseling services for the target population of the "2024 Changhua County Youth Career Guidance Service Program," enhancing youth workplace adaptability and assisting young people in entering the job market.

ii. Collaborating with the local enterprise "Elite Electronic Industry Co., Ltd." to assist in training enterprise supervisors and project managers in sensitivity and high-efficiency communication skills, enhancing supervisors' ability to identify employees' psychological needs, promoting organizational personnel's mental health knowledge to improve psychological well-being, enabling focus on official duties during work hours to improve work efficiency, enhance physical and mental health, create a positive organizational culture of interaction, and thereby increase happiness.

2. Through Industry-Academia Collaboration, Cultivating Local and Rural Professional Care Personnel to Improve Care Quality for the Elderly Population

(1) We offer the "Indigenous Special Program for Elderly Health Promotion and Care Management" to cultivate professional talent and improve the quality of life in health management and care for the elderly.

(2) NCUE's “Indigenous Special Program for Elderly Health Promotion and Care Management” collaborates with local medical centers through industry-academia partnerships to provide students with hospital internship opportunities. The curriculum is divided into three key areas: Professional Required Courses, Professional Elective Courses, and Indigenous Culture and Language Fields, outlined as follows:

(a) Professional Required Courses: Geriatric Health Promotion Module, Care Service Module, Management Module, and other related courses.

(b) Professional Elective Courses: Business Management Module, End-of-Life Care Module, Health Promotion Module, Home Care Supervision Module.

(c) Indigenous Culture and Language Module.

3. USR Social Responsibility Practice Program: By signing the Resilient Changbin Strategic Alliance Cooperation MOU, we have a new chapter of bilateral cooperation and exchange. The program focuses on community sports guidance, health screening, nutrition education and fish consumption education. By linking local resources, we can precisely intervene in community residents' health risks. The program combined health screening with sports guidance programs to enhance the well-being of rural residents, and its diverse learning and talent cultivation also help the university to practice social responsibility to create a healthy future. 4. Integrating Career Guidance Concepts and Different Counseling Approaches to Promote Counseling Service Strategies for People with Disabilities, Enhancing Physical and Mental Health and Quality of Life Across Age Groups.

(1) NCUE’s Behavioral Therapy Consultation Research Center applies behavioral analysis principles to provide behavioral counseling for individuals with disabilities who have special needs. Individual counseling is provided for 6-10 people and group counseling sessions are held for two groups of people with disabilities. Through one-on-one positive behavioral intervention, teaching, and behavioral guidance, the center promotes physical and mental health and quality of life across age groups.

(2) The service targets are residents of the Changhua area who hold disability certificates or disability identification, and who have been assessed as having long-term behavioral problems such as self-injury, harming others, property destruction, socially unacceptable behaviors, or excessive withdrawal. These are individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism whose behavioral issues seriously affect life adaptation and require behavioral therapy.

(3) The center uses behavioral analysis theory and developmental theory as its theoretical framework, emphasizing a student-centered service model and promoting evidence-based therapeutic service strategies to advance diverse service programs for people with disabilities.

5. Student Service Clubs Enter Rural Areas to Conduct Health Education Advocacy in Elementary and Junior High Schools, Providing Rural Elementary and Junior High School Students with Health Promotion Knowledge

(1) NCUE's Rural Service Club organizes "Sexual Health Outreach to Elementary Schools" program during summer vacation, using theatrical performances to advocate sex education including AIDS prevention. The elementary school students are absorbed in the context. During winter vacation, the Mountain Service Team organizes "AIDS Matters" program which themes were "Love Flavor (O) AIDS (X)" and "Doctor AIDS". They used Q&A sessions to help children better understand AIDS transmission, prevention, and protection. NCUE student clubs' outreach programs effectively promote the health and well-being of rural students. (Figures 7-8)

(2) NCUE actively participates in anti-drug advocacy activities in elementary and junior high schools with short dramas to promote anti-drug messages. In addition to fulfilling university social responsibility, we also encourage students to step out of campus for service learning and civic responsibility contribution. The "Student Association of Department of Guidance & Counseling," "Student Association of Department of English," "Student Association of Department of Chinese," "Baisha Sign Language Club," "Baisha Calla Lily Ambassador Group," "Extension Education Service Club," "Baisha Scout Club," "Indigenous Power Club," "Mountain Service Club," "Fishing Village Service Club," "Rural Service Club," and other clubs have enthusiastically assisted in promoting anti-drug education in elementary and junior high school campuses in recent years. Their footprint has covered elementary schools in northern Changhua and extended across counties to some elementary schools in Taichung and Nantou counties, completing 94 sessions with 20,632 elementary and junior high school students participating. (Figures 9-10)
