SDG 14.2.2 Sustainable fisheries (community outreach)
NCUE’s Environmental Education Center and the Department of Biology are responsible for project outreach and funding support from government agencies to offer free educational programmes and outdoor activities related to fisheries, aquaculture, and tourism to local communities and junior and high school teachers and students. The programmes are reviewed based on their performance for continuous implementation of strategy improvement. The goals are to effectively improve the interests and awareness of local communities and junior and high school teachers and students in fisheries, aquaculture, and the related ecological tourism industry; and cultivate future talent in related industries. A summary of related projects is shown in Table 1.

Course Offered by the Department of Biology, College of Science:
The target audience of the course, Sustainable Development and Practices of Coastal Biological Resources are the Students at NCUE, community members, and professionals in the aquaculture and fishing industries.
The course focuses on providing education and outreach programs related to the sustainable management of fisheries, aquaculture, and tourism for local and national communities. The content includes the introduction to Taiwan’s aquaculture industry and products, theory and practical operations of water quality testing and biological/ecological survey methods, practical operations of vibrio testing for water samples and aquatic products, introduction to economic fish species, their diseases, infected tissues, and observation of bacterial slides, beneficial bacteria cultivation and desalination experiments in aquaculture, field observation and documentation of local fisheries and fish markets, fish education and cultural experiences at the Changhua Food Research Base, environmentally friendly concepts in purchasing and cooking aquatic products, food design, and concept promotion and sharing, and feedback reports and video recordings of practical experiences in environmentally friendly industries.
