Number of graduates

In 2023, NCUE had a total of 2,031 graduates (Figure 1). The breakdown is as follows:

1. ISCED 6 (bachelor’s degree): 1,145 graduates.

2. ISCED 7 (master’s degree): 823 graduates.

3. ISCED 8 (PhD degree): 63 graduates.

Number of graduates who gained a qualification that entitled them to teach at primary school level

National Changhua University of Education (NCUE) is an institution focused on secondary education teacher training. In 2023, a total of 348 individuals obtained teaching qualification.

1. ISCED 6 (bachelor’s degree): 278 people.

2. ISCED 7 (master’s degree): 70 people.

3. ISCED 8 (PhD degree): 0 people.

Additional Information:

Among the graduates in 2023, 511 students from NCUE completed the required pre-service teacher education courses in the teacher education program and passed the performance evaluation, thereby obtaining the Pre-service Teacher Education Completion Certificate. According to Taiwan's legal regulations, after obtaining this certificate, students are eligible to participate in the Teacher Qualification Examination. Upon passing this examination and subsequently completing their Practical Education Training, they can then obtain their Teacher's Certificate.

Regarding teacher education courses, according to Taiwan's Teacher Education Act, the Pre-service Teacher Education Courses encompasses three main aspects: general courses, specialization courses, and professional education courses. Among these: General courses include physical education, Chinese, English, and general education courses. Specialization courses are taken based on the specialized field the teacher candidate intends to pursue, in accordance with the curriculum of each department of the university. Professional education courses, totaling 26 or 27 credits, are mandatory for all teacher candidates. The following explanation focuses solely on the professional education courses.

Professional education courses consist of four components:

1. Educational Foundation Courses: Students are required to take at least 2 courses, totaling 4 credits. Courses include Introduction to Education, Educational Psychology, Sociology of Education, and Philosophy of Education.

2. Educational Methodology Courses: Students are required to take at least 4 courses, totaling 8 credits. Courses include Principles and Practice of Teaching, Measurement and Evaluation in Education, Classroom Management, Instructional Medium, Curriculum Design, and Principles and Practice of Guidance.

3. Educational Practice Courses: Students are required to earn at least 10 credits, with 4 credits required for Instructional Materials & Methods and Teaching Practicum. Other courses include Teaching Application and Practice, Practice and Service Learning in Secondary Education, Seminar on Educational Issues, Teaching Professional Practice, Cross-disciplinary Teaching Application and Implementation, Teacher Career Planning and Professional Development, and Cross-disciplinary Curriculum Design and Teaching.

4. Elective Courses: Students are required to take at least 2 courses, totaling 4 credits. Courses include Introduction to Special Education, Remedial Teaching, Adaptive Teaching, Reading Education, Adolescent Psychology, Educational Administration, Behavior Modification Techniques, School Administration, Science Education, Teaching Practicum in Secondary Education, Computer and Instruction, New Immigrant Families and Education, Scientific Inquiry and Practice, Comparative Education, Introduction to Taiwan’s Indigenous Peoples, Ethnographic Fieldwork, Indigenous Education, Multicultural Curriculum and Instruction, Indigenous Languages, Vocational Education and Training, Block-based Coding, Life Education, Human Rights Education, Local Education, Marine Education, Gender Equality Education, Multicultural Education, and Career Planning.
