SDG 11.4.1 Sustainable practices targets
1. The installation of a Public Bicycle-sharing System in Changhua
(1) NCUE established a station for the Changhua Public Bicycle-sharing System. The main entrance of the Jinde Campus has been rented to the Changhua County Government since June 28, 2014, as a public bicycle-sharing station (YouBike system). On December 31, 2023, the contract was renewed for the term January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2026. (MOOVO system, Figure 1) In addition to providing convenient local transportation for staff and students, the project aims to encourage teachers and students to use public transportation, lower carbon emissions, and contribute toward environmental protection and energy saving.

(2) The provision of parking spaces/storage facilities for bicycles and motorcycles: The University has set up free bicycle and motorcycle parking sheds and stands, which can hold 1,722 bicycles and 3,733 motorcycles, on campus for faculty and students, as shown in Figures 2-6.

2. Professor Liang-rui Chen led a project, funded by the National Science and Technology Council, titled “Field Research and Demonstration of Multiple Microgrids in a High-Penetration Photovoltaic Environment.” To provide resources for the project, a public bid was held in 2022. As the winner, Creative Tech Consultants, Inc supplied an electric bus for NCUE, which will be used in green energy field experiments (Figure 7).

3. Installation of Charging Stations in Compliance with Government Policies
NCUE plans to install charging stations in 2024. Two charging units are installed in the underground parking lot of the Jinde Campus, and one unit is installed in the surface parking lot of the Baoshan Campus. These efforts comply with government policies and relevant regulations, achieving the goals of energy conservation, carbon reduction, and sustainable development (Figures 8-9).
