SDG 11.2.4 Public access to green spaces
1 The NCUE campus is known for its beautiful environment, with a total of 43.5 hectares of green space across both campuses. It is permanently open to the public free of charge, providing leisure green spaces and sports areas for the community.
The campus is open for the public to freely enter. People can stroll through the campus spaces, with specially designed pedestrian walkways allowing for walks through the flower garden paths or along the shores of Baisha Lake. Visitors can also use facilities such as water dispensers and restrooms (Figures 1-7). Notably, NCUE places a great emphasis on creating an accessible campus environment. The campus has 23 main buildings, each of which is equipped with accessible elevators and restrooms, achieving a 100% installation rate. Buildings and campus facilities are regularly inspected and improved in accordance with accessibility regulations, ensuring the availability of elevators, restrooms, ramps, and guidance facilities installed to accommodate individuals with disabilities (Figures 8-9).

The sports venues and facilities of NCUE are freely available not only to teachers and students but also to the public. This includes access to the tracks and fields of the university, as well as the volleyball court, basketball courts, and football fields on the Baoshan campus, promoting community engagement and encouraging physical activity for exercise for all (Figures 10-11).

2. In response to the ecological crisis of global warming, NCUE launched the "Ecological Homelands and Urban-Rural Sustainability: A Changhua Ecological Art Project" under the Department of Fine Arts' USR initiative in 2023. With "Local Care" as the main focus, this project aimed to realize the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: "Sustainable Cities and Communities." Table 1 lists various free activities held in 2023.

(1) Signifying an alliance between USR (University Social Responsibility) of NCUE and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) of Changhua Christian Hospital, both sides jointly held the "Green Accompanying Ecological Art Exhibition." This exhibition increased green recreational spaces near urban areas while allowing students to connect with local communities and contribute to ecological sustainability, forming an alliance for the local ecosystem. The opening day attracted 50 participants, and throughout the exhibition period, the number reached over 300 people, including hospital staff, patients, families, and community residents (Figures 12-13).

(2) The project emphasizes urban greening as a way to restore the ecological environment, while also accompanying the elderly through horticultural courses. In collaboration with the Changhua Senior Learning Center, NCUE organized the "Horticultural Therapy [Experience] 2023 Five Senses Gardening Workshop for Seniors," with 30 participants (Figures 14-15). Additionally, a Community Parent-Child Horticultural Therapy Workshop was held, which was attended by 31 parent-child pairs (Figure 16).

(3) In cooperation with the Changhua City Office, NCUE assisted in planning the ecological plant restoration project for Siangshan Trail and Oriental Park, aimed at increasing green recreational spaces in urban hillside areas and promoting ecological mini-tours in hillside areas. Through collaboration, we foster the vision of an ecological city. Furthermore, NCUE partnered with the Siangshan Community Development Association to organize four events, including the "Ecological Guide Training Workshops of Siangshan Trail and Oriental Park" and ecological mini-tours, as shown in Table 2. All activities were free of charge (Figures 17-18).
(a) Two sessions of Ecological Guide Training Workshops in Siangshan Trail and Oriental Park were held, training 48 volunteer guides.
(b) One session of Guide Training Presentation and Picnic Event was held, where guides were divided into four groups covering six stations. Each station was equipped with ecological information boards. The event showcased the results of community volunteer guides and invited young farmers from Changhua City to introduce bee ecology and demonstrated DIY experiences on green circular economy practice using coffee grounds, such as making coffee grounds deodorizers, mosquito coils, and incense pagodas. A total of 78 people participated.
(c) Students were taken on an "Ecological Mini-Tour" to the collaborative venue "Siangshan Trail and Oriental Park," where they observed plants in the natural setting, complementing their classroom knowledge through ecological guidance.
